FAQ · before you subscribe

Questions before you subscribe

The questions a buyer asks first, answered straight: what it is, where it is live, what a row contains, how it is scored, what it costs, how to stop and how your systems read it. If yours is not here, email msunkrish@firstvectorsignals.com and a person replies, usually within one business day.

What is this?

A daily, scored list of WARN notices, the advance notice of a closure or layoff that an employer files with its state agency: read every night from the public listings of the live states, kept only when the state record is complete, ranked by one published rule and emailed at 06:00 Central for U.S. seats (06:00 London for UK seats once the UK is live), with the state record linked on every row. It is built for deal teams: private equity, private credit and ABL, turnaround and interim CFO, and sell-side M&A.

Where is it live?

Texas, Wisconsin, Illinois, New York and Ohio today, each read every night from the agency's own listing. Every other state and the United Kingdom are in build by dated wave, and Minnesota is not covered until its agency publishes head counts; the coverage page lists every market with its status. We do not promise a date for your state: states named by subscribers go on the review list, and the regional charter is the way to have one built for you.

What does a row contain?

The company name as the state filed it, the city, the state, the head count, the closure or layoff type, the notice date and, where the state publishes them, the effective date, the industry and the NAICS code; the score with its breakdown; and the link to the state record (the state's WARN listing, or the filing PDF for Ohio). On the public pages a row is masked: score, sector, state, head-count band, notice date and type. The field dictionary names every field.

How is it scored?

By one fixed rule built from the state record only: head-count band (+10 to +35), closure or reduction (+0 to +25), industry (+0 to +20), recency of the notice (+0 to +20), and +5 each for a NAICS code and an effective date on record, capped at 100. The breakdown is printed on every row. It is not a distress or deal signal: it uses no revenue, ownership or anything else the state does not publish. The score, in full.

What does SEND do?

SEND is the one-word reply to an introduction email from us. At the next inbox poll, usually within minutes, it starts the free 14-day trial for that address and sends the filings that email showed with the company name, city and state record, plus your terminal link. Nothing is charged and the trial simply ends; there is one trial per email address. Without an introduction, the trial form does the same.

What does it cost?

$1,500 a month or $15,300 a year for one analyst seat; $50,000 a year for a firm license, which covers everyone at one firm and adds the MCP endpoint; $100,000 a year for a regional charter, a firm license plus the coverage you need, scoped by email first. In pounds sterling: £1,200 a month or £12,200 a year for one analyst, £40,000 a year for a firm license and £80,000 a year for a regional charter, excluding VAT for UK business customers; choose GBP on the subscribe page. Billed by Stripe, no set-up fee; the 14-day trial is free and needs no card. Every plan.

How do I stop?

To cancel billing, email us from the address on your account, or use Stripe's billing portal where a Stripe email links to it; access runs to the end of the period you paid for, and within 14 days of your first payment we refund it in full on request. To pause the daily email only, use the link at the foot of any digest; pausing does not cancel billing. A trial needs no action: it simply ends. The terms have the full policy.

Can my systems read it?

Yes. The feed at /api/signals returns JSON for your 45-day window and is included with every seat and trial; a firm license adds an MCP endpoint, so an assistant or an internal agent can ask for the same filings. Fields are added, never renamed or removed without 30 days' notice. Your terminal also exports the same window, and your watchlist with its match history, as CSV files (the Export links in the toolbar), at any time; there is no Excel export. The developer docs describe every field.

Is this the same data I could read on the state sites?

Yes. Everything we publish is public on the five state WARN pages, free. You pay for one list across five formats, pulled every night, cleaned of public bodies, schools and health care, scored by a published rule, with a 45-day sortable history, a JSON feed and a source link on every row. The comparison is below.

What does this give me that a weekly list or a scrape does not?

Weekly lists and raw scrapes give you the notices; this gives you the verified, scored, followed record and the tools to act on it. Seven points, each linked to its proof: re-read every night · one published rule · watchlists · what happened next · your lens learns from you · agent-ready · checkable in public. Read the seven in full →

Do you offer a free trial?

Yes: 14 days of the daily digest, the terminal and the JSON feed for one person. No card is taken, nothing is charged and the trial simply ends; there is one trial per email address. The MCP endpoint and extra seats come with a firm license. Start it here.

What is free, and what is paid?

Free: the last 14 days as masked rows (score, sector, state, head-count band, notice date and type). A seat or a 14-day trial: company names, cities and the source link on every row, the 6 a.m. Central digest, the 45-day terminal, the JSON feed and the digest lens. Firm plans add the MCP endpoint and a seat for every colleague.

How many filings will I see?

It depends on the states. The home page shows the live count of verified filings with a notice date in the last 30 days, and the last digest is on the sample page. Some mornings have nothing new, and the email says so.

What does "verified" mean?

That the state's own record carries a company, state, notice date and head count, the date is plausible and the raw record is stored with the row. It does not mean we contacted the employer. The full definition is on the methodology page.

Can I get only my states or sectors?

Yes, for the email. "Set your lens" in any digest filters the daily email by state, sector group (manufacturing; logistics, transport and construction; everything else) and head-count band. If nothing matches on a given morning, the email shows the top five unfiltered rather than arriving empty. The terminal and the feed always show everything; the feed takes a states parameter.

What do the Pursuing / Passed buttons do?

Each is one click under a filing in the digest (and in your terminal). Pursuing is noted with a thank-you. Passed may ask one optional question, too small, wrong geography and so on, which you can skip. Your calls go to the founder's console and the Monday review. When the same reason comes up three times in a month, your next digest offers one change to your lens, which you accept or decline with one click; it changes only your own digest. The score itself never changes automatically; a person decides, and you see the change in the digest when it ships. Any reply to a digest reaches the founder too.

Can I share my login with a colleague?

No. A seat is one named user and the terminal link is that person's login. A firm license covers everyone at one firm; email us names and we create each seat.

Which plan should I choose?

  • One person, not sure yet: monthly. $1,500, cancel any time, and the first payment is refundable on request within 14 days. Or start with the free 14-day trial.
  • One person, decided: annual. $15,300 against $18,000 for twelve monthly payments; the saving is $2,700.
  • Four or more people at one firm: firm license. $50,000 covers everyone at the firm; three annual seats would cost $45,900 and four would cost $61,200, so the firm license is the cheaper choice from the fourth seat, and it is the only plan with the MCP endpoint.
  • You need a state we do not cover: regional charter. $100,000 a year, everything in the firm license, and we scope and build the coverage you need, agreed by email before you pay.

Same data and same rule on every plan. Prices in USD, billed by Stripe, no set-up fee. In pounds sterling: £1,200 a month or £12,200 a year for one analyst, £40,000 a year for a firm license and £80,000 a year for a regional charter, excluding VAT for UK business customers; choose GBP on the subscribe page.

How do I pay?

By card, through Stripe, at checkout; every plan, the firm license included, can be bought that way. For a regional charter, email us first: the coverage work is scoped by email before you pay. Prices start at $1,500 a month. UK customers can pay in pounds: In pounds sterling: £1,200 a month or £12,200 a year for one analyst, £40,000 a year for a firm license and £80,000 a year for a regional charter, excluding VAT for UK business customers; choose GBP on the subscribe page. Prices in GBP exclude VAT for UK business customers: enter your firm's VAT number at checkout and the reverse charge applies; any VAT Stripe applies is added at checkout.

What happens when a state website changes?

That state is skipped that night and the others still load. Nothing is ever filled in for a missing state, and the digest says when the whole overnight pull did not complete.

Where is my data stored, and what do you keep?

Subscriber records and filings are in Google Cloud, in the United States. We keep your name, email, firm, plan and status, Stripe's identifiers, a log of the emails we send you, your lens settings, your one-click feedback and a short excerpt of any reply you send us. Card details stay with Stripe. The privacy page lists everything.

Who reads my email?

A person. Replies to any email from us, and mail to msunkrish@firstvectorsignals.com, reach the founder's inbox; expect an answer from a person, usually within one business day.

What you do not get

We would rather you know before you pay.

  • Only five states. Texas, Wisconsin, Illinois, New York and Ohio. No California, Florida, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Michigan, Georgia or the other states, and no federal or union notices.
  • Nothing beyond the state record. No revenue, EBITDA, ownership, parent company, lender, contact names or phone numbers. We do not research the companies.
  • One email a day. There are no intraday alerts; a filing the state posts after our overnight pull is in the next morning's digest.
  • A listing link, not a per-filing link, for four states. Texas, Wisconsin, Illinois and New York publish their notices as a single list, so the source link takes you to that list; only Ohio publishes a PDF per filing.
  • Gaps the states leave. Texas publishes no closure or layoff type, three states publish no industry or NAICS, and Illinois publishes no layoff date. We show a dash rather than guess.
  • Forty-five days. The terminal and feed show filings with a notice date in the last 45 days. Older filings are kept but not shown.
  • No Excel workbook. The terminal exports your 45-day window and your watchlist as plain CSV files, and the feed is JSON; there is no formatted spreadsheet and no scheduled file delivery.
  • No matching across states. A company that files in two states appears twice, once per state, as the states publish it.
  • No guarantee a state site will not break. When one does, that state is skipped that night and the others still load; the digest flags a night when the whole pull failed.
